Corn: Trucker's Favorite White

Trucker's Favorite has been around since 1899 and is a staple for old-time gardeners. There is also a yellow version, though the white is typically sweeter.

Trucker's Favorite White Corn is one of our favorite field corn varieties for making corn meal or grits.  When ground into cornmeal, it makes the perfect batter for frying fish or making hushpuppies. When using a coarse grind, it also makes excellent homemade grits.

This white dent corn produces 9-10′ tall plants that grow well in various conditions, although especially adapted for warmer climates. Ears are 9-10″ long with large, pearly white kernels along a cream-white ear. Trucker's Favorite White Corn germinates better in cooler soil than most varieties, making it an excellent choice for early plantings. It can even be planted in spring, two weeks before the expected last frost date.

Be sure to plant in blocks to get good pollination and therefore harvest. Succession planting prolongs harvest.
